Lab Introduction
Asia Research Center for Housing Laboratory
Director : Dr. Seo Ryeung Ju
http://www.archresearch.org/
ARCH is a research institute built as part of the future specialization strategy of Kyunghee University residential environment department.ARCH was established with the goal of integrating residential research that is dispersed in the Asian region through academic exchanges and developing the research results into international outcomes and establishing the uniqueness and expertise of residential research in Asia. It focuses on research and education centered on Southeast Asia among Asian regions. Currently, research is being carried out on various fields such as residential culture, lifestyle, residential type, residential design, interior design, housing policy and marketing for Southeast Asian countries such as traditional residence, modern residence and modern residence, Research on comparative cultural perspectives within the region is also under way through the Southeast Asia Housing Forum.
the Housing and Urban Affairs Laboratory
Director : Dr. Hyunjeong Lee
The Housing and Urban Affairs Lab (HUAL) provides various opportunities for interdisciplinary approaches to housing and urban studies, and many innovative initiatives on education and research have been designed to engage scholars and professionals in collaboration. In addition to the provision of international education programs, HUAL addresses a wide array of distinctive research on housing and urban changes in comparative contexts. Specifically, HUAL deals with household transitions, housing transformations and urban issues in the global society, and it concerns urban housing affairs in political economy, socio-cultural mechanisms, and other institutional/environmental dimensions. With the strong commitment to multidisciplinary and creative activities, HUAL explores urban dynamics related to housing system, public policy, and labor market that affect the behavioral choices and outcomes of stakeholders/actors in housing production/ development, finance, consumption/distribution, social services and management.
Facility Management Laboratory
Director : Dr. Jun Ha Kim
FM is a business management technique that integrates people, place, process, and IT technology to secure the functionality of the built environment and create an optimal environment for organizations to focus on their core business. Our lab combines various disciplines such as architectural engineering, business administration, and industrial engineering to conduct convergent research on facility condition inspection (FCA) for strategic FM, benchmarking/outsourcing strategy, development of key performance indicators and decision-making systems, and development of operation management of Korean social housing and senior housing facilities.
Human-centered Interior Environment Laboratory
Director : Dr. Ji Young Cho
https://hielab.weebly.com/
Human-centered Interior Environment lab (HIE lab) focuses on understanding multifaceted human-environment relationships with human-centered approach through diverse methods and techniques, including EEG, eye-tracking, VR and AR technologies, and traditional research methods, ultimately aiming to help informed design decisions. For such aim, we try to identify environmental characteristics that enhance human response in perceptual, emotional, and behavioral level. Research Interests include (a) identifying characteristics of interior design for creative performance and healing process with neuroaesthetic perspective, (b) developing spatial ability training tool for space-relevant performance, and (c) Age-tech study supporting older adults’ quality of life
Wellness and Ergonomics in Design (WEB) Laboratory
Director : Dr. Suyeon Bae
The Wellness and Ergonomics in Design (WEB) lab focuses to enhance health and wellbeing through evidence-based design strategies in various built environments. Wellness and ergonomics for older adults focus on creating supportive and accessible environments that enhance comfort, safety, and independence, thereby promoting their overall health and quality of life. Wellness in the built environment can be significantly enhanced through evidence-based design strategies that prioritize human health and comfort. By focusing on factors like indoor environmental quality (IEQ), such as lighting, air quality, and acoustics, spaces can be optimized to improve both mental and physical well-being.
